Latest Heidelberg Installed

On 6th March 2015, Stephens & George’s new Heidelberg Speed master XL 106 eight-colour perfector was put through its paces as the first client sheets ran through the press. S&G who specialise in the printing of magazines, catalogues and brochures added this latest piece of equipment to its already impressive fleet of presses.

This new XL106 sits alongside another XL 106 perfector giving us two eight-colours and one five-colour Xl106 straight press ,plus two xl 105 perfectors , in addition to a two-colour Heidelberg SM 52 and a two-colour SM 102 ZP. Andrew LG Jones, Chairman & Group Managing Director commented, “It is our policy to invest in the latest technology to service our publishing clients. This new additional press will free up much needed capacity, give us more flexibility and give us quite a bit of headroom to develop the business.” The new Heidelberg Speedmaster has already reached maximum speeds of 18,000 sheets per hour and is equipped with the latest CutStar reel-to-sheet technology, Auto plate XL plate changing, auto register and Inpress Colour Control.

The installation process took 6 weeks from receipt of press to running the first tester sheets and then with an additional week for client work to run through.Paul Enoch, S&G Production Manager said, “this is the next step of the journey at S&G and one which will continue to strengthen the relationship between Heidelberg and S&G with the latest high speed perfector already coming quickly out of the blocks. The press is definitely the industrial solution to high speed performance and efficiency along with quality and security. It reaches maximum performance with ease and delivers and exceeds all expectation. Without doubt the best investment to date. The R&D department have certainly done their homework.”

Jim Todd Heidelberg Sales Director stated “from their first XL long perfector to their fifth in as many years is the ultimate evidence of S&G’s aggressive policy to keep ahead with the very latest, most productive technology on the market. This level of investment through the worst of the recession is unrivalled in the sector and will no doubt provide S&G with the strongest base for growth”.

An additional Speed master XL 106 eight-colour perfector is scheduled to be installed in February 2015 which will replace a 10-colour Speed master XL 105. This continued re-investment is clear evidence that S&G are at the forefront of the UK printing industry and illustrates the company’s passion for print of the highest quality.
